Carlos Cuello holds a degree in Hispanic Studies and a PhD in Spanish Language from the University of Valencia and the Universität Heidelberg, where he has been part of the research group "Discourse particles and cognition" (DPKog) at the Heidelberg Center for Ibero-American Studies (HCIAS). He currently works as an associate professor in the Department of Philology and European Cultures at the Universitat Jaume I. His research activity is mainly focused on historical linguistics (and, in particular, Grammaticalization Theory), the study of discourse markers and construction grammar.
